SJB Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara firmly asserted yesterday that the National People’s Power (NPP) is attempting to evade a substantive debate with the economic committee of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), emphasizing that they will not be allowed to evade such discussion.

The debate between the SJB and the NPP or Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has become the focal point of national discourse lately. Approximately a month ago, the NPP leader expressed views concerning the NPP’s economic committee," Bandara highlighted.

During an interaction with a journalist around that time, the NPP leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, faced a query about the Finance Minister of the NPP. However, Dissanayake was unable to provide a clear answer at that moment. Instead, he announced the formation of a committee comprising Sunil Hadunnetti, Wasanna Samarasinghe, and three others to oversee the economy," Bandara recounted.

He further disclosed that one among them would assume the role of Finance Minister under their prospective government. It was subsequent to this announcement that I issued a challenge to the NPP," he elucidated.

Bandara underscored that he was the pioneer in challenging the NPP for a debate, though it did not gain significant traction initially. "Nevertheless, I persisted in extending the invitation for a debate. Subsequently, a committee comprising Dr. Sunil Hadunnetthi, Dr. Seetha Bandara, and Professor Anil Jayasinghe was eventually formed," he added.

In conclusion, Nalin Bandara's unwavering determination to engage in substantive debate with the National People’s Power (NPP) underscores the commitment of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to foster transparency and accountability in political discourse. The formation of a committee to address economic matters signifies a step forward in facilitating constructive dialogue between parties. As discussions intensify, it is imperative for all stakeholders to prioritize the exchange of ideas and perspectives in order to promote informed decision-making and advance the interests of the nation.
